I am not angry about not being a Christian. I do get upset though when people claim I just didn't do it right or wasn't a real Christian. I had friends who knew me as a Christian, who have made that same accusation to me. That is why that post got under my skin. Funny, they never claimed I wasn't a real Christian when I was serving God.

I never believed that being a Christian would make me rich or make my life easy. I am not sure where you got that impression. I endured all of my trials happy to suffer, for my Lord suffered for me, yadda, yadda, yadda.

I much prefer my current belief system where, instead of being content to suffer, I try to make my life better.

As I have told my Christian friends, if God wants me back, he knows where to find me.

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Charity, a couple of questions. Does the below quote from your blog not prove you weren't truly a Christian?

" 'You’re right about one thing, though, I was never truly reborn of the Holy Spirit of God, even though I thought I was, because there is no Holy Spirit of God!' "

It appears to me as a profession of such. I am dumbfounded at your anger. Are you not happy now that you have discovered you aren't a Christian, and shouldn't that make you have pitty anyone whose still stuck in what you came to find was a crock?

If you thought being a Christian was supposed to make you wealthy, which one of the Apostles was rich. If you thought it would make your life easy, which of the Apostles wasn't martyred (with exception of John). Christ said there would be persecution and tribulation. I think you should reconsider and return to Him. Just my opinion.

I wish you well.

Great post, Charity. Perhaps Charles Smith has interacted with ex-Christians of the type he describes, but it is clear that he needs to broaden his search for ex-Christians as he will find ex-Christians that are the polar opposite of what he describes.

Brava, Charity. I caught this over at ex-christian.net. and love how well-written it is, especially that you have not skewered this Mr. Smith, but simply put his delusion and condescension in sharper relief. Thank you!

Charity,

Here's a nice atheistic poem I was saving for February, when it gets to be a truly cold cruel world. "Think Happy Thoughts. And Eat Your Jello Man"--President Huxtable. The whole country's got cabin fever.

Cabin Fever

pity us all
for a world
gone wrong

pity life
and love

snow covers
intentions
faster now

in a blink
we give up
caring

surrender
to doom

sell out past
and future
for one day
after another

have no need
of passion
hope or desire

fuck merely
not to think

snow falls
on graves
already dug

time catches up
passes by

My Godless, did I ghost-write this post for you? So rude. I love it. Can't wait till you go after those Reagan cultists next.

***"But I get it. If someone can have an authentic experience with God and still arrive at the conclusion that it was all in her head, that threatens your belief. ***

That's why hallucinogenics scare the shit out of holy rollers.
